The Korean Association of Internal Medicine (KAIM) was established on 15th December 1945. The founding committee was composed of 10 doctors. The initial name of KAIM was Chosun Association of Internal Medicine and was changed to KAIM on 15th August 1948. The inaugural meeting was held on 23th December 1948 in Kyongsong Imperial University Hospital with 50 members. First annual congress was held in 16th November 1947.
Since 1964, annual congress was held twice in Spring (in Seoul) and Autumn (in other Province). The official journal of KAIM was launched in 1st October 1949. First four Internal Medicine Specialists were certified in 1952. In 1960, first examination for Internal Medicine Specialist was performed and 12 doctors passed the examination.
The number of member of KAIM is 22,354 in 2022 and official journal (Korean Journal of Internal Medicine; KJIM) is listed as SCIE journal from 2014. The impact factor of KJIM is 3.165 in 2021.
